PROJECT 2 - DEFORESTATION INSTALLATION

Class Title: DSGD 104

This installation main purpose is to bring awareness to deforestation and also appreciate forest for giving us oxygen, shelter soil to grow food. By having this installation in a public place with many people passing by, the bright blue color will be able to stand out. I picked blue to imitate the look of water and how important water is for growing trees. As for the logs surrounding the larger tree logs, I choose to make it half dark brown because it imitates the color of actual trees. Also for an interactive experience, I made the logs blue on one side that acts as a window so that parents can see their kids through the glass. For the larger tree stump in the middle, the concept was to make the tree visible from the inside to show the rings bleeding and deteriorating from the inside. Causes include logging and infestation while having water surrounding it to represent a solution for healing trees. For the design process, I incorporated angular geometric and round shapes and symmetry.

Another concept I wanted to incorporate is to be shaped as a target to show that trees are being targeted by the main causes including logging and infestation. I made the top of the middle tree truck red to relate to how many trees are being affected.
